Laura Friedner - Trustee

Laura brings a wealth of experience as an accomplished HR Leader with a 25-year tenure in the public sector within the creative industries. Currently serving as the Director of People at the National Theatre, her career spans roles at a prominent Creative Arts University and a substantial period at the BBC. Her roots in North Devon, coupled with a youthful engagement in drama and membership in a youth theatre group, reflect her early passion for the arts—highlighted by her memorable portrayal of Caliban in The Tempest at the age of 13, earning her recognition in the local newspaper.

Residing in Chesham for eight years and raising four children, Laura holds a firm belief in the fundamental importance of making the arts accessible and inclusive, drawing from her own enriched experiences with the arts from a young age.

Her commitment to community service is underscored by the profound impact she witnesses within The Theatre Shed, observing the enhanced confidence and joy it brings to both participating young individuals and those who witness their performances. Leveraging her leadership and organisational acumen, Laura actively contributes to the charity's smooth operation, emphasising the elevation of its profile and fundraising efforts.

Laura's approach centers on attentively listening to diverse perspectives and adapting her style and strategies accordingly, recognising the value of inclusivity in decision-making processes. Her dedication stems from witnessing firsthand the transformative effects of The Theatre Shed on young participants, drawing from her children's own confidence and skill development through their involvement in theatre.

Laura strongly advocates for The Theatre Shed's multifaceted benefits—building confidence, acquiring new skills, providing a channel for emotions, and fostering new friendships. She passionately supports the program's role in offering a creative outlet, instilling confidence, and providing a safe space for young individuals to authentically express themselves.
