Meet the team

Sally R. Alford - Patron & Mentor

Sal embarked on her journey studying Drama and Dance at the Guildhall School of Music & Drama, earning an A.G.S.M. Alongside her studies, she found herself drawn into the Professional Contemporary Dance Company under Ernest Berk's tutelage, a journey that extended beyond her academic tenure.

Her affinity for teaching surfaced during a year-long teacher training course, leading her to a fulfilling career as a Drama teacher and eventually as Head of Expressive Arts, where she directed numerous productions. Her involvement extended to Community Drama, particularly the Amersham Martyrs Plays, which she co-directed over several years.

Her association with Theatre Shed fills Sal with a profound sense of fulfilment. Witnessing new members blossom into confident individuals, embracing cooperation, contributing their ideas, and seeing them materialise under the guidance of the talented Artistic Team brings her immense joy. The reactions of parents and carers to the participants' work further affirm the impact of The Theatre Shed's activities.

Having observed youth members evolve into mentors and pursue successful careers, Sal firmly believes in Shed's transformative influence, a conviction that runs deep within her. Her dedication to Shed is palpable, as she metaphorically equates her unwavering commitment to having "SHED" printed inside, akin to a stick of rock.

Her journey with Shed traces back to its inception, initiated by Irene Perrin, a cherished friend and former colleague. Sal's affiliation as the Drama specialist Trustee spans 17 years, a testament to her enduring passion for Shed's mission and the friendships forged along the way.

Encouraging parents and carers to introduce their young individuals to Shed, Sal emphasises the program's potential to profoundly impact lives. Her unwavering belief in Shed's ability to nurture life skills and shape futures underscores her impassioned plea for others to experience its transformative influence.
